Oh wow, this is exciting news indeed. The New Zealand Mint will release Star Wars coins! And they're legal tender! Fat chance that we would see any in general circulation. I just might be tempted to purchase a coin... or two. But an entire set would be too much of an investment. It would be so cool though if I can get a set with its custom casing!
According to a news article in scoop.co.nz,
The first Star Wars coins to be released are scheduled for launch in August at the American Numismatics Association Show in Chicago, and will include eight 1oz silver coins and 10 Silver Plated base metal coins depicting the characters of the Star Wars movies. The effigy used for these coins will be the Government of Niue.To learn more about the coins, visit the New Zealand Mint website.
Further releases are planned annually, into the first half of 2014.
