Where to live?

I have been renting out an apartment for the longest time now, and I have been wondering when I can get a place of my own for my family. I have always desired to live in a place where there the busy city life won't be so evident. We have previously been scouting for a place in Laguna, but we had to stop looking temporarily as there are expenses that need our attention in the very near future.

I did not like living in a condominium unit too, for I would love to have my own porch where we can have barbeque with friends, plant trees, vegetables and flowers, and occasionally camp out just for fun! But with the ever increasing traffic going into and out of Manila, that seems quite a farfetched idea, especially with my notorious habit of sleeping late and waking up late. Work would never agree with my having a home too far from the office. *sigh*

Guess you really can't have everything you want, huh?

  1. Yap can’t have it all. Life is all about compromise. Our GM lives in Laguna, therefore she always leaves her place quite early or she’ll arrive at the office very late. I live in a condo unit, which is just a few mins away from our office so I get to wake up late. Leaving just enough time to fix myself. Uh that means a lot of time still to be honest. Of course there are limitations when it comes to living in a building.

  2. After years of careful saving, we finally purchased our first home last October. After spending the last 15 years of my life living in dorms and apartments, I was more than ready. Hopefully you will be able to get the house of your dreams in the near future.

P.S. How were the pickled peppers?

For four years I lived two blocks and a pedestrian overpass away from the office, while my co-workers went home everyday to places like Bulacan and Carmona. This meant that if anything should go wrong in the office during the weekend I was the one who got called in. I've lived in a 16sqm studio, and in an apartment with no square corners in it. Not much of a choice when you have to rent. Owning a house on the other hand, that's something... but unless you know a good realtor, there may be no choice but to live away from the city and commute.

  5. Hello Amie! That is one of my main concerns actually: the waking up early bit. That will indeed be a challenge for me.

Hello Mr. Abbey. Saving up is what I definitely must do. And I gues what will happen is we will have a home in the province and go there for vacations. Living too far from work is something I definitely cannot do.

Hello bambit! Ah yes. That is one of the "perks" of staying near the office :-)

    masterchu: hmmmm

That's true Alan. Economics plays a big part in the decision-making of where you should live, plus the convenience.

  9. I know what you mean. I currently live in a rented condo unit. Having my own home has always been a dream but with the insufficient funds and rising prices...

Home is where you make it anyway. But despite all the emotional things one can say to convince me that home is where the heart is, the practical side of all this shines through. Home is where comfort is. Home is a place I can call my own. Given that, I guess that dream will be put on hold for awhile.

Here's hoping we both fulfill our dreams of home in time!
