LEGO WALL-E meets Junior WALL-E

DSC_0454

For me, WALL-E is not just another movie. This actually has a sentimental value to me.  it was a highly anticipated film back in 2008.  Personally, I was excited for it also because it featured robots, and the lead character looked like Johnny 5!  I was equally looking forward to the merchandise as well.  Which makes me wonder why I only bought 1 action figure from the wide array of choices!

That's Junior WALL-E getting acquainted with other action figures.

LEGO Nexo Knights Robin's Mini Fortrex polybag review

Polybags are hard to come by here in New Zealand.  You either get them from special LEGO events, as prizes from contests, or in this case, as a freebie from a magazine!

The LEGO Nexo Knights Robin's Mini Fortrex polybag comes free with this month's issue of K-Zone (AU/NZ edition) so get this magazine while you can!

The build itself is quite easy - my son managed to do it in record time - but what's interesting with this set are the new pyramid-like translucent studs.  We've never had those pieces before.  Well, actually this is our first Nexo Knights set ever; this may well be a recurring theme in the other sets belonging to the Nexo Knights category.

Another special feature of this set is that it includes a minifig in the form of Robin.  According to the LEGO website, Robin Underwood is a freshman student at the Knights Academy. Too bad he doesn't come with accessories but it's still good to have this minifig.

LEGO Minifigures Series 15

We bought half a dozen LEGO Minifigures Series 15 blind bags from this series hoping to get the Shark Suit Guy (we like mascots), the Queen (we have the King from a previous series), and the Faun (reminds us of Narnia), and the Astronaut (who doesn't love LEGO Space?).  For me, anyway.  My son would like to get the space guy (the Laser Mech).

The good news is, we got 6 unique figures, three of which are the ones we want (the Shark guy, Astronaut, and the Laser Mech.  The bad news is... nah, getting the other minifigs are not bad news.  They all look cool actually.

Wellington Brick-Con 2015

DSC_0166

Last weekend (31Oct-1Nov) was a momentous event for LEGO fans in Wellington.  We had our first ever Brick-Con!  This was organised by the Wellington LEGO User Group (Well-LUG), which has a very active community of mostly AFOLS (Adult Fans of LEGO).  The Little People of New Zealand, a charity that supports people with dwarfism, as the beneficiary of this show.

I, along with my son and daughter, visited the show yesterday afternoon.  I was thinking the crowd would be more manageable by then because it is on its final day but was I wrong!  The place was jampacked.  And take note - adults outnumbered the kids!

We enjoyed viewing the exhibits.  There were lots of minifig collections on display, MOCs (My Own Creations), Sets, Star Wars... being a Star Wars fan, this was definitely a must see - I went round that area twice!

Lego Mixels Electroids

Mixels are a new series for Lego this year, and I believe there is a tie-in series with Cartoon Network (their logo on the blister pack has given it away!).  Here in New Zealand, each pack costs $7.99 which is a good price (considering that the minifigs are $4.99 each).  And there's the occasional sale days which is usually a  20% deal or a buy-one-take-another-50%-off.

There are three sets in Series 1.

In search of Emmet (part 2)

Because we really wanted to have an Emmet figure and 'failed' with the first batch of blind bags (though the set was really an awesome addition to our minifig collection), we decided to buy another half dozen and try our luck.

There were duplicates in this set though.  We got 2 President Businesses, another Larry the Barista, and the Panda Suit Guy.

Our new minifigs are as follows:

President Business
We haven't watched the movie yet (out on 17th April!) but we know that he is the bad guy in the movie.  His headpiece is unique and has 2 faces.  He has a mug for accessory and labeled 'Octan'.  He's got a nice suit for printing.  Actually, I think I have a suit of that colour too!

In search of Emmet

With the impending release of The Lego Movie in New Zealand (still coming out in mid-April - seriously?!), we've been excitedly watching movie trailers, reading reviews, and watching a host of YouTube Videos about it.

And of course, we would like to have an Emmet Lego minifig for our collection!  We're pretty sure he is the hero in the movie, although we haven't watched it yet.

So over the weekend we went minifig hunting!  We bought six blind bags with the hope of getting an Emmet (we heard he's quite a common figure, which is good).

And the first minifig we have is... Abraham Lincoln!

Lego Star Wars Microfighters 75028: Clone Turbo Tank review

We were excited for the Millenium Falcon and the X-Wing Fighter and the TIE Interceptor of the Microfighters series, but not so much with the Star Destroyer (looks too simple to justify the price) and the AAT (not a fan of the Droid army), but the Turbo Tank is in middle ground.  It's not as iconic a vehicle as the others but it sure looks good, and the stormtrooper minifig is a nice addition.  After some deliberation (and realizing that these sets are flying off the shelves), we finally bought one.

This set did not disappoint.  The Clone Trooper minifig is great, and it has a bigger-than-usual gun.

Lego Star Wars Microfighters Millenium Falcon review

When the Star Wars Minifighters featured in December 2013's Lego catalogue, we were more than excited.  We were jubilant!  Well, the full-size Millenium Falcon set is quite expensive, AND since such sets tend to stay as is, space/storage can be a problem.  So this Microfighters series is truly good news, as they are on a much smaller scale and are definitely more affordable (it is $17.99 at Toy World, with 20% off on special days).

The Millenium Falcon (Model No. 75030) is one of the sets we are after, chiefly because this is such an iconic ship.  And having the Han Solo minifig with this set is such a sweet bonus!

Here is the Han Solo minifig:
Nice print details on the front, pretty much faithful to the movie costume.  Han has a happy face...
...and a passive-aggressive face.

Lego Build with Chrome

My son and I are excited to try this out over the weekend.  Good thing our preferred browser is Chrome too!  Head over to the Build with Chrome website to check this out!

Lego Star Wars Microfighters

Of the many sets Lego is releasing this year, we are most excited about the Star Wars Microfighters.  Granted that the Star Wars branded Lego models are quite expensive, we hope that this mini versions will be more affordable.

The Microfighters will be available here in New Zealand in March.  We are keen to have the X-Wing Fighter, Millenium Falcon, Star Destroyer and the Tie Interceptor.  Fourth on the list is the Clone Turbo Tank.  The AAT is at the bottom of the list, it just looks wierd.

The minifigs look cool as well, so we would not mind having more of those!

Lego Castle Model No. 70400 Review

The Warehouse was offering Lego models at 20% off, and we thought it was a good idea to purchase a box, even if it was one of the smaller ones.  And when we spotted this Lego Castle box, we knew it was going to be a good one.  At $14.39, it's really a good deal because there's 4 minifigs in the box!  And add to that the accessories included in the set, this is indeed a nice find.

Lego Minifigures Series 11

We bought some Lego Minifigures Series 11 blind bags recently as they were on sale (3 for $10! Usually $4.99 each).  In this case, we actually bought 5 Series 11 and 1 Series 9 (we were hoping to get the Chicken Man, which looks like a nice addition to our collection).

Here's what we have so far!

Holiday Elf
I like this one primarily because I like collecting Christmassy stuff.  And it dos help that the Elf includes a big gift box and a teddy bear!  The ears are attached to the green cap.

Gingerbread Man
We're happy to get this one!  Such a unique Minifigure.  Nice markings, and the head looks like one of those colourful macarons we see in confectionery shops, with dark chocolate filling.  Really nice minifig overall.
